UNVEILING THE MYSTERY: HOW OLD IS YOUR AIR CONDITIONER?

Aug 5, 2023 | AC, Air Conditioner, Air Conditioning System, Brand, Condenser, Lifespan, Manufacture Date, Model, Nameplate, Online, Outdoor Unit, Serial Number

Keeping tabs on your AC’s age is something we highly recommend. As a homeowner, understanding the age and condition of your air conditioner brings valuable foresight and allows you to plan with peace of mind. This is because, with proper maintenance, air conditioners typically last a good 15 to 20 years. So, being aware of the age of your AC unit ensures you’re well-prepared for any unexpected surprises if your AC is nearing the end and decides to take a breather. After all, no one enjoys being caught off guard, right?

Here are some tips from your Springfield Heating & Cooling experts to help guide you through the process of unveiling your air conditioner’s age:

Seek the Manufacture Date on the Condenser

Let the adventure begin by stepping outside and locating your outdoor unit, also known as the condenser. You can easily spot it as the large metal box nestled in your backyard or by the side of your house. Once you’ve spotted the condenser, search for a nameplate on one of its sides containing all the essential information about the unit. In the upper right corner, you’ll likely find the manufacture date, often labeled as MFR DATE or something along those lines. If not there, check the top area of the nameplate, as it is another common spot for the manufacture date. If the manufacture date remains elusive, don’t worry. Simply proceed to step number two.

Seek the Manufacture Date Online

It’s time to channel your inner detective. Jot down the model, brand, and serial number from the nameplate, or simply snap a quick picture with your phone for convenience. Then, enlist the power of your preferred search engine by entering these three details along with the phrase “manufacture date” at the end of it. Once you click the search button, various websites should pop up, guiding you with specific instructions to decode your AC model’s manufacture date. Bravo, you’ve conquered the challenge! Well done!
